Captain Science likes the conversational style. After IEW, which was unnecessarily formal, I think it's a relief to have something less overblown and pretentious.

I think I'll have to create the "perfect" writing curriculum to get what I'm looking for, sadly.

Lydia did Writing Strands 3. She enjoyed it once she got used to the author's annoying conversational style. It was a quick book for us. I like that it helped her start formulating more interesting sentences but that was about all it taught her. If you find the perfect writing curriculum let me know.

We are doing Write with the Best this year. I like the literature selections but again, the writing assignments are, "too simplistic" and/or contain too much grammar. Lydia rocks at grammar. I just want the writing portion.

I've run into the same problem with Vocab From Classical Roots. The answers are rather subjective at times. If Lydia can justify her answer, I give her a pass. Otherwise she seems to be enjoying it.

Boy, do I hear you with the Dance Mat Typing. Thank God for head phones.
