I'm always thankful to have the discussion with you, even though I'm pretty mainstream on the topic. I can drop by a meal tomorrow, if you would like me to. I'm sorry Babypie is suffering through this and I hope you and your family gets rest soon.

I understand what you are saying. My ds had Rubella when he was too young to have received the shot anyway. It was hard on us both. Two years ago, I even purposely exposed my girls to "wild" chicken pox even though the oldest had received one of the two shots for it. Once they broke out, I felt horrible, but once they recovered I knew it was the right thing. It was also a great opportunity to talk about the history of immunizations and the rationale used for many of the shots and traditional methods of treating illness. My mom was around to even tell stories of when kids actually got measles and mumps - and lived.

The great thing about three days measles is that the worst is typically over by the time you figure out what it it.

Get some rest an continue to trust yourself.

Shortly after we decided definitely not vaccinate FB, he and EG both caught a bad cold. He was seven months old, and I remember sitting up in bed holding him, listening to him cough. I thought then, and still think, that we were caught between the rock and the hard place. A catch-22. If I had vaccinated him, I risked him having a reaction similar to EG's or even worse. I knew exactly why I wasn't vaccinating, and even if we had done selective or delayed vaccination, he wouldn't have received the DTaP at all or wouldn't have received it at that point. And yet, listening to him cough, I just wanted to make it stop. I didn't want to go back and start the DTaP at two months or anything like that. I just wanted the magic wand.

When I've trusted my intuition, I've yet to be wrong. And still, in the quiet of the night, it's so very very hard.

Sorry she isn't feeling good! :(

Have you tried the standard oatmeal bath? It seemed to help when Seth had chicken pox - at least, while he was in it. :P Lavender lotion seemed to help a bit longer, actually, and I hadn't heard of using lavender for itchiness before that. But maybe you're past the worst of the itchiness anyway, hopefully! Seth only had it badly for two nights. (I do understand the parental guilt of not preventing the disease... especially when my mom gave me a bit of a hard time since he came down with CP on Christmas Eve!)

It would be nice to get the rubella out of the way! We're still on the fence about that one, especially now that they don't seem to be making anything but the trivalent MMR. :P I guess even if they don't give you a real diagnosis, you'll be able to have her titers checked when you need to know whether or not she's immune.

Good luck, hope she feels better soon!
